Year 6 visit the Museum of London

Year 6 visited the Museum of London Docklands to take part in a ‘Locks and Loads’ workshop. This explored the history of the museum and local area and we found out the building was a warehouse, where sugar was stored and transported in bulk from one place to another. It was fascinating to hear how the River Thames used to be filled with thousands of ships and how this led to the building of the the docks as a way of relieving this congestion. We explored different types of scales, crates and carts used at the time. The pupils were able to see how a pulley, a simple machine, is a clever way of reducing the amount of effort (force) used in lifting a load.
