Deputy Mayor and British Paralympian

Two exciting visitors

Last week Ferry Lane was lucky enough to host two exciting guests! Deputy Mayor of London, Joanne McCartney, and British Paralympian shot putter, Vanessa Wallace, came to meet pupils. The reason for the visit was so they could see pupils running their daily mile and celebrate the school’s achievement in receiving the ‘Healthy Schools’ silver award.

A group of pupils even received a lesson in how to throw a shot put during their music lesson!

Another group of pupils then met both visitors and asked them a series of questions to learn about their backgrounds and careers. It was an interesting and inspiring meeting. Joanne is a the deputy mayor representing Enfield and Haringey and also the Mayor for Education and Childcare. Vanessa trains in Haringey and is about to fly off to Dubai to compete in the World Para Athletics Championships, she also bought in some of her other medals!

A group of playground buddies also met the guests to explain their role and how they have helped make break times more enjoyable for some pupils.

Year 5 have been designing outdoor shelters for guinea pigs. They explored the properties of different materials and worked in teams-here are some of their fantastic creations.. Also, a big thank you to everyone who took part in our non-uniform charity fundraiser for PhabKids!…
