Year 5

ABOUT YEAR FIVE

Hi, I’m Androulla Theodossiou with Amy Sullivan and welcome to Year 5.

 

The school follows the National Curriculum for pupils aged five to eleven, which is divided into different subject areas of which Literacy, Mathematics and Science are the major parts (Core Subjects). The teaching of many of the other subject areas is incorporated into Topic work, which enables children to practise literacy and numeracy skills and also brings in knowledge from other areas such as history, geography and RE.

 

All children also participate in practical activities such as PE, Science and Design Technology. Our curriculum is designed to engage all children in enjoying their learning and to raise standards of attainment and achievement.

The school’s work to keep pupils safe and secure is good.

YEAR 5

As part of our English curriculum we study a range of texts and genres of writing.

 

In Maths lessons we will be learning key skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, angles, fractions, decimals and percentages as well as problem solving and data handing.
